Global oil prices stabilized after reaching a five-month high on Tuesday as markets monitored a meeting between senior representatives from Iran and Pakistan, a key intermediary between the U.S and Iran. Brent crude futures fell by 0,69% to 108,79 USD/barrel, while December WTI crude declined to 97,82 USD/barrel. Continued attacks between Houthi forces in Yemen and Saudi Arabia have raised concerns over stability in the Middle East and highlighted persistent risks to energy supplies from the region, keeping oil prices consistently above 100 USD/barrel. Meanwhile, European gas storage facilities ahead of the winter season are currently only around 75% full, the lowest level since 2009.
The Chinese CNY reached its highest level in more than 4 years yesterday. China’s economic growth recovered from a three-year low, expanding by a stronger-than-expected 4,5% in Q3 as exports and industrial production continued to support growth. The most direct factor supporting the CNY’s latest appreciation has been the strong performance of the trade sector. The CNY is expected to continue appreciating modestly during the remainder of 2026 and trade within the 6,6 - 6,7 per USD range by year-end. The People’s Bank of China set the CNY reference rate at 6,72 per USD, the strongest level since 2/2/2023. China kept its loan prime rates unchanged in October for the 17th consecutive month, signaling that policymakers are in no hurry to introduce additional monetary easing measures following stronger GDP data.
Interbank USD/VND edged lower and closed Tuesday at 25.880. Today, the market is expected to remain stable around the 25.850 - 25.940 range.
