Market Highlight 17.11.2025

The White House announced on Friday that President Donald Trump had issued an order reducing import tariffs on beef, tomatoes, coffee, and bananas - an effort aimed at lowering grocery prices amid growing pressure from voters demanding relief on essential consumer goods. These exemptions will reduce trade tariffs on items that the administration deems cannot be produced domestically in sufficient quantities to meet U.S demand. Hundreds of other food products, including coconuts, nuts, avocados, and pineapples, are also listed among the items to receive tariff exemptions effective November 13. The move comes as President Trump shifts focus toward measures that could bolster household income, against a backdrop of rising concerns over the performance of the U.S economy under his leadership. It also serves as an implicit acknowledgment that the President’s tariff policies have contributed to upward pressure on consumer prices.

The USD Index fell nearly 0,3% last week as concerns persisted about the health of the world’s largest economy following the record 43-day U.S Government shutdown. Markets are also weighing whether the Federal Reserve may proceed with a rate cut in December. A substantial backlog of economic data - delayed during the shutdown - is set to be released this week, potentially triggering heightened volatility across financial markets. Several FED officials have signaled greater caution regarding a December rate cut, with the probability now estimated at just 40%.

The interbank USD/VND exchange rate rose to 26.360 on Friday, marking an increase of roughly VND 50 over the past week. Meanwhile, the effective upper band for the session stood at 26.378. The market is expected to continue trading steadily around 26.350 throughout this week.
