Market Highlight 15.09.2026

Global oil prices surged after Saudi Arabia announced the closure of a key crude oil pipeline due to escalating conflict in the Red Sea region. The move disrupted an important alternative energy transportation route used to bypass the Strait of Hormuz amid the U.S - Iran conflict. Brent crude rose by around 5% yesterday to nearly 110 USD/barrel, while WTI traded at around 103 USD/barrel. Oil prices had already risen sharply before attacks targeted the East-West oil pipeline, which has a transport capacity of around 7 million barrels per day. Global oil prices exceeded 100 USD/barrel for the first time since July last week, supported by declining inventories and strong buying demand from China. Brent crude has now increased by more than 75% this year. Saudi Arabia informed OPEC that its crude oil production last month fell to the lowest level since 1990. If Saudi supply disruptions persist, oil prices could rise toward 120 USD/barrel in the near term.
The crisis in the Middle East is creating a new inflation shock for the global economy as both natural gas and fuel prices surge. Following U.S data showing that consumer price inflation accelerated further in August, the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates this week. The U.S 10-year Treasury yield rose above 5% last night for the first time since 2023, as rising inflation concerns combined with increasing borrowing needs from the Government and businesses.
Interbank USD/VND rebounded sharply by nearly VND 65 yesterday and closed at the intraday high of 25.995. Market sentiment was influenced by the possibility that the U.S Central Bank could raise interest rates by another 0,25% on Thursday this week, while USD payment demand typically increases during the second half of the month.
