China’s exports are expanding rapidly, driven by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) boom as well as efforts by Chinese companies to sell more goods overseas amid intense price competition in the domestic market. China’s overall trade surplus reached 805 billion USD in the first 8 months of 2026, keeping the country on track toward the record 1,2 trillion USD surplus recorded in 2025. Semiconductor exports surged by 130% in August amid strong global demand for AI investment. The race to secure semiconductor supplies required for new data centers has pushed prices higher. Exports to the U.S rose sharply by 34,3%, despite the effective tariff rate on Chinese goods reaching around 23% in June, more than three times the level applied to other major trading partners. U.S President D. Trump is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart later this month to discuss plans to extend the mutual tariff truce.
Global oil prices continued to rise after the U.S and Iran attacked each other’s oil tankers, further escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict also intensified around energy facilities in southern Saudi Arabia, forcing several sites to suspend operations. WTI crude has now risen above 94 USD/barrel, marking its seventh consecutive daily gain, while Brent crude is trading near 98 USD/barrel. With oil prices rising sharply again, market attention is turning to a series of important U.S economic reports due later this week, including Consumer Price Index (CPI) and producer price data, ahead of the FED’s upcoming policy meeting on 15 - 16/9.
Interbank USD/VND declined for a second consecutive day to 25.950 before recovering to 25.975 by the end of the session. The 25.950 level remains an important support area today.
