Market Highlight 07.09.2026

A report released by the U.S Department of Labor on Friday night showed that the economy added 162.000 jobs in August, a stronger-than-expected result that confirmed the labor market had moved beyond the weakness seen in early summer. The unemployment rate remained stable at 4,1%. The increase was partly driven by a recovery in restaurant activity and the education sector. Hiring had weakened significantly in June and July, so the positive August result helped ease concerns that the U.S labor market was deteriorating. The world’s largest economy has now created an average of 80.000 jobs per month this year, compared with average growth of 10.000 jobs per month in 2025. Average hourly earnings increased by 3,1% YoY, while consumer prices rose by 3,4% in July, indicating that wage growth is still struggling to keep pace with inflation. The latest report did not suggest that the labor market is adding to price pressures. The FED’s next interest-rate decision will depend on inflation data due this Friday. The probability of a FED rate hike at the upcoming 16/9 meeting is still estimated at nearly 60%.
The European Central Bank is almost certain to raise interest rates for the second time this year on Thursday. The market is closely watching for signals on whether another rate hike could follow later this year. Recent data showed that inflation in the region accelerated sharply to 3,3% in August, the fastest pace in nearly three years and significantly above the 2% target.

Interbank USD/VND fell to near 26.050 by the end of Friday’s session as USD supply in the market became more abundant at the beginning of the month. The increasing likelihood of a U.S Central Bank rate hike in around two weeks could affect trading sentiment in the market.
